Indonesia Becomes the World's 5th Largest Smartphone Application Market

App Annie recorded 230 billion smartphone app downloads in 2021. Based on download numbers, Indonesia ranked as the fifth largest smartphone app market globally.

China had the highest number of smartphone app downloads worldwide, with 98.4 billion downloads in 2021.

India ranked second with 26.69 billion smartphone app downloads. The United States followed with 12.19 billion downloads in 2021.

Brazil ranked fourth with 10.33 billion downloads, while Indonesia held the fifth position with 7.31 billion downloads.

Indonesia also experienced one of the highest growth rates in app downloads globally, increasing by 15% compared to 2020.

Despite the large number of downloads, Indonesia's in-app purchase spending power is not significant. Indeed, Indonesia did not even make the top 20 list of countries with the highest in-app transaction spending.
