A Katadata Insight Center (KIC) survey shows that communication expenses are a primary monthly recurring expense for Indonesians. A recorded 74.4% cite the need for purchasing mobile phone credit and internet access.

Food purchases rank second at 69.9%. Fuel purchases follow at 52.9%.

Next, 48.7% of respondents stated that their regular monthly expenses include bill payments, such as home and vehicle installments. Furthermore, 37.6% reported that their regular monthly expenses include savings and emergency funds.

Other regular monthly expenses include eating and drinking at restaurants and cafes (26.4%), investing (25.1%), buying clothes and accessories (17.6%), hobbies and entertainment (10%), vacations (9.2%), and other expenses (2.2%).

This survey was conducted among 5,204 respondents aged 15 and above with internet access across Indonesia. The online survey was conducted from September 6-12, 2021.
