Indonesia's U-23 national football team made history by advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
This achievement was secured after the Young Garuda defeated Jordan 4-1 in their final Group A match at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha, Qatar, on Sunday (21/4/2024).
Indonesia will next face South Korea in the quarter-finals at the same venue on Friday (26/4/2024).
Ahead of the match, South Korea's national team coach, Hwang Sun-hong, acknowledged several strengths in the Young Garuda, including coach Shin Tae-yong and the naturalized players.
"Several naturalized players in Indonesia also have a high contribution to the team and are effective in the squad," said Hwang Sun-hong in a press conference, as reported by *Kompas.com*, Wednesday (24/4/2024).
In this tournament, Shin Tae-yong brought four naturalized players to represent the Indonesian U-23 national team.
According to Transfermarkt, the naturalized player with the highest market valuation is Nathan Tjoe-A-On, at Rp6.08 billion as of April 25, 2024.
Previously, Nathan had left the Indonesian national team because the permission granted by his club, SC Heerenveen of the Netherlands, had expired. However, Nathan returned to represent the Young Garuda after his permission was renewed.
In second place is Ivar Jenner, with a market value of Rp5.21 billion. This naturalized player from FC Utrecht, Netherlands, obtained Indonesian citizenship on May 22, 2023.
Third place is occupied by Justin Hubner, with a market valuation of Rp3.48 billion. Justin Hubner is a Dutch-born player who previously played for Cerezo Osaka in Japan.
Meanwhile, Rafael Struick is the Indonesian national team's naturalized player in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup with the lowest market value, at Rp1.3 billion.
