According to IDC, Apple's smartphone shipments in 2023 reached 234.6 million units. This figure represents a 3.7% year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to 2022.

"Apple's continued success and resilience are largely due to the increasing trend towards premium devices, which now represent more than 20% of the market, driven by aggressive trade-in offers and interest-free financing," said Nabila.

The third to fifth positions were occupied by Chinese smartphone manufacturers.

Xiaomi, in third place, shipped 145.9 million smartphones in 2023, down 4.7% YoY.

Oppo's smartphone shipments decreased by 9.9% YoY to 103.1 million units, while Transsion's shipments surged by 30.8% YoY to 94.9 million units.

Overall, IDC recorded a 3.2% YoY decline in global smartphone shipments in 2023, reaching 1.17 billion units. IDC stated that this is the lowest figure in the last decade.

According to IDC, the decline in global smartphone shipments was largely influenced by macroeconomic challenges and increased supply.
