Cloud computing adoption among Indonesian public institutions remains very low. A survey by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) revealed that only 30% of the 169 surveyed public institutions in Indonesia have adopted cloud services.
The central government has the highest cloud adoption rate, reaching 71.4%. This is followed by universities (34%), local governments (25.4%), and hospitals (8.8%).
Furthermore, 39.6% of public institutions stated they are not currently using cloud services but plan to do so in the future.
“However, the prospects for cloud computing adoption in the Indonesian public sector are quite good, considering that almost 40% of public institutions plan to adopt it in the future,” the report stated.
Meanwhile, 30.2% of public institutions reported that they are not currently using cloud services and are unsure about future adoption.
The survey indicates that the main reasons Indonesian public institutions use cloud services are to improve service quality, enhance organizational productivity, improve information coordination, and provide flexibility in scaling resources.
This survey was conducted from February 21 to March 11, 2022, across five Indonesian regions: DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Bali, and Gorontalo. The survey involved 169 public institutions: 21 from the central government, 67 from local governments, 47 from the education sector, and 34 from the health sector.
