Shopee's Employee Recruitment Surpasses Other Southeast Asian Startups

Shopee, a Southeast Asian technology company, hired the most new employees according to a RevoU report. This Singaporean e-commerce startup recruited 17,326 new employees as of May 2022.

RevoU noted that Shopee was among the top three companies in Southeast Asia with the highest employee growth percentage in May 2022, reaching 58% year-on-year (YoY).

The on-demand service company Grab ranked second among regional technology companies with 3,305 new employees. Lazada came in third with 2,027 new employees.

Glints had 547 new employees, followed by RedDoorz (215 new employees), ZALORA (191 new employees), and TADA (63 new employees). According to RevoU, e-commerce companies dominated the top seven regional companies.

The RevoU report compiled employee data from LinkedIn Premium Insight for each company from May 2021 to May 2022.

RevoU stated that Shopee has been aggressively expanding its operations to various countries since last year, not only in Asia but also on other continents. According to the Shopee website, the e-commerce platform is now present in Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Taiwan, Poland, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina.

Recently, Shopee has reportedly announced mass layoffs. This measure primarily affects the Shopee Food and ShopeePay business lines. "Mass layoffs will be carried out in all countries where Shopee operates," several sources said, as quoted by Tech In Asia on Monday evening (June 13).
