What News Do Twitter Users Like to Read? What Content Do They Search For Most?

The Reuters Institute states that Twitter is viewed as a place to obtain news, comments, and alternative perspectives compared to other platforms.

Data from the *Digital News Report 2021* shows that a quarter (25%) of Twitter news users say their main reason for using it is to read the latest news.

"Compared to Facebook, only 13% say the same," wrote the Reuters Institute in a publication on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

In the *Digital News Report 2022*, more Twitter users read national and political news, chosen by 59% of total Twitter respondents.

The next most popular news content was business, finance, and economic news, chosen by 45%. This was followed by entertainment and lifestyle content, celebrities, at 39%. These three content categories were the most sought after by Twitter users.

Of the content analyzed, the least popular were the Ukraine war (32%); social justice news (35%); and environment and climate change (37%).

The Reuters Institute says that the news topics people say they pay most attention to on Twitter also reflect the platform's identity.

"Compared to other platforms, a higher proportion of Twitter news users in our data visit the platform to get up-to-date information on national politics and news about business, finance, and economics," wrote the Reuters Institute.

The survey included 5,852 Twitter respondents. However, overall, the *Digital News Report 2023* surveyed more than 93,000 digital news users in 46 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.
