Indonesians' ability to use information and communication technology (ICT) is generally improving. This is recorded in a survey report from a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), titled *Status Literasi Digital di Indonesia 2022* (Indonesia's Digital Literacy Status 2022).
According to the report, in 2022, the index of Indonesian citizens' digital literacy in the *Digital Skill* pillar reached 3.52 points on a scale of 1-5. This achievement is an increase from 2021, which had an index of 3.44 points.
The *Digital Skill* pillar measures an individual's ability to know, understand, and use ICT hardware and software, including digital operating systems in daily life.
“One of the highest indicators in this pillar is the ability to download files,” stated the Kominfo Ministry team in their report.
Of the 10,000 people surveyed, 63% of respondents claimed to be able to independently download files/applications. This is the most widely mastered digital skill among Indonesian citizens.
The least mastered digital skill is verifying information on the internet. Only 43% of respondents could do this independently, as shown in the graph above.
Although the overall index of Indonesian citizens' *Digital Skill* is improving, knowledge of ICT hardware and software tends to be decreasing.
In 2021, 49% of respondents answered questions related to hardware correctly. However, in 2022, this percentage dropped to 42%.
Then, in 2021, the proportion of respondents who answered questions related to software correctly reached 48%. However, in 2022, this percentage dropped to 45%.
The Ministry of Kominfo and KIC conducted this survey on 10,000 internet users aged 13-70 years, spread across 34 provinces and 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia.
The survey was conducted during August-September 2022 through face-to-face interviews. Sampling was done using multistage random sampling, with a margin of error of approximately 0.98% and a 95% confidence interval.
Respondents had diverse backgrounds, including housewives, entrepreneurs, employees, students, farmers, and others. The complete report on this survey can be accessed and downloaded via the link: https://survei.literasidigital.id/.
