Online Ticket Transactions in Indonesia are Projected to Reach Rp 125 Trillion in 2018

The Gross Booking Value (GBV) of Indonesia's online travel (ticket) services is estimated to reach US$8.6 billion, or Rp 125 trillion, growing at a 20% CAGR since 2015. This value is projected to increase to US$25 billion by 2025. Indonesia's internet-based ticket service GBV is the largest compared to other Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand and Malaysia.

According to Google and Temasek's research titled "e-Conomy SEA 2018 Southeast Asia’s Internet Economy Hits an Inflection Point," the GBV of the online ticket market in Southeast Asia reached US$29.7 billion. This is the largest compared to other internet economy sectors such as e-commerce (US$23 billion), online media (US$11 billion), and online transportation (US$8 billion).

Flight tickets were the largest online travel service in Southeast Asia in 2018, with a value of US$18.4 billion. This was followed by hotel tickets at US$10.78 billion and tour tickets at US$0.6 billion. The GBV of online ticket bookings in Southeast Asia in 2015 reached only 34% of the total value of travel service transactions, increasing to 41% in 2018 and is predicted to grow to 57% by 2025.
