Home Phone Service Declining in Popularity

The booming smartphone market has led to a continuous increase in the number of people using mobile phones. By 2015, 56.92 percent of the population used mobile phones. This rise in mobile phone usage has caused a decline in the use of fixed-line telephones, with consumers increasingly abandoning them. In 2015, only 4.01 percent of households used fixed-line telephones.

PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom), the fixed-line telephone license holder, continues to develop landline services. With the increasing penetration of the internet, Telkom has also begun marketing Triple Play services – a package that includes telephone, internet, and interactive TV. It is hoped that this service will encourage Indonesian households to continue using fixed-line telephones to access internet and pay-TV services.
