Many Indonesians engage in extensive online activities daily. This is evident from a survey report, a collaboration between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), titled *Status Literasi Digital di Indonesia 2022* (Digital Literacy Status in Indonesia 2022).
According to the report, the majority, or 26%, of surveyed Indonesians access the internet for more than six hours a day. The proportion of respondents accessing the internet for less than six hours a day is smaller, as shown in the graph above.
When broken down by age group, prolonged online activity is generally seen in younger people, namely Generation Z and Generation Y. The proportion of Generation Z respondents accessing the internet for more than six hours a day reached 35%, and Generation Y at 26%.
Older age groups, such as Generation X and Boomers, who access the internet for more than six hours a day, only account for 19% each.
“Generation Z and Y tend to access the internet longer than other cohorts. In these younger groups, more respondents access the internet for more than six hours a day, while most Generation X and Boomer generations access it for one to four hours,” stated the Kominfo and KIC team in their report.
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics and KIC conducted this survey on 10,000 internet users aged 13-70, spread across 34 provinces and 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia.
The survey was conducted from August to September 2022 through face-to-face interviews. Sampling was done using multistage random sampling, with a margin of error of approximately 0.98% and a 95% confidence interval.
Respondents had diverse backgrounds, including housewives, entrepreneurs, employees, students, farmers, and others. The complete report on this survey can be accessed and downloaded at https://survei.literasidigital.id/.
