Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland, successfully won the top scorer title in the 2022-2023 English Premier League.
Haaland did not play at all when Man City lost 0-1 to Brentford at the Community Stadium, London, on Sunday evening (28/5/2023) WIB. The Norwegian striker's position was replaced by Julian Alvarez.
Coach Josep Pep Guardiola's decision to bench Haaland prevented the former Borussia Dortmund player from adding to his goal tally. However, this did not prevent Haaland from securing the Golden Boot in this season's English Premier League.
Haaland won his first top scorer title with a collection of 36 goals. The 22-year-old player outscored Tottenham Hotspur striker, Harry Kane, who came in second place.
Kane scored two goals for Tottenham in their 4-1 victory at Leeds United on Sunday (28/5/2023). These two additional goals brought Kane's total to 30 goals in the Premier League this season.
Haaland's 36 goals this season also broke the record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season. Haaland surpassed the record of Andy Cole (1993-1994 season) and Alan Shearer (1994-1995 season), who both scored 34 goals.
Before winning the English Premier League top scorer title, Haaland was also named Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year in the English Premier League. According to the Premier League website, Haaland is the first player to receive both awards in the same season.
