Catalunya Winner Quartararo Extends MotoGP 2022 Championship Lead

Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo won the 2022 MotoGP race held at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, Spain, on Sunday, June 5, 2022.

This victory solidified "El Diablo's" position at the top of the provisional MotoGP 2022 standings through the 9th round.

The 25 points earned at the Catalunya MotoGP raised Quartararo's total score to 147 points. He now holds a 22-point lead over Aprilia rider Aleix Espargaro, who has a total of 125 points.

Aleix Espargaro failed to reduce the points gap from Quartararo after making a embarrassing mistake at the Catalunya MotoGP.

Espargaro was actually in second place heading into the final lap of the Catalunya MotoGP race. However, Aleix Espargaro thought the race was over and immediately celebrated, even though there was still one lap remaining.

As a result, the second position he had briefly held was taken over by Jorge Martin, and Espargaro only managed to add 11 points after finishing the race in fifth place.

Meanwhile, Enea Bastianini was in third place in the provisional MotoGP 2022 standings through the 9th round. He also suffered bad luck in Catalunya due to a DNF (Did Not Finish). His points total remained unchanged, still at 94 points as in the previous round's standings.
