Reaching Rp6.9 Trillion, Here's the Breakdown of 2022 Qatar World Cup Prizes

The 2022 Qatar World Cup matches began yesterday (November 20th). Until December 18th, 2022, 32 participants will compete for the trophy of the world's most prestigious football tournament, held every four years.

Besides the trophy, the champion and other participants will also receive hundreds of billions of rupiah in prize money. According to *Sporting News*, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has allocated a total budget of US$440 million, or Rp6.91 trillion, as prize money for the 2022 World Cup (exchange rate Rp15,712/US$).

Each participating team will receive prize money based on their achievement. At the group stage, each team will receive US$9 million, equivalent to Rp141.4 billion.

Teams that reach the Round of 16 will receive US$13 million (Rp204.25 billion), while those reaching the quarter-finals will receive US$17 million (Rp267.1 billion).

The fourth-placed team will receive US$25 million (Rp392.8 billion). The third-placed team will receive US$27 million (Rp424.22 billion), the runner-up will receive US$30 million (Rp471.36 billion), and the 2022 World Cup champion will receive US$42 million (Rp659.9 billion).

The prize money for the winners has increased from previous World Cups. At the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the champion received US$30 million. This increased to US$35 million at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and US$38 million at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
