The competition for the Champions League top scorer title is heating up after Erling Haaland scored a brace in Manchester City's 3-1 victory over Young Boys.
Haaland scored two goals at the Swiss club's home ground in the third Champions League match on Thursday, October 25, 2023, WIB (West Indonesia Time).
He netted in the 67th and 86th minutes. Previously, The Citizens had taken the lead through Manuel Akanji's goal in the 48th minute. Young Boys' reply came from Meschack Elia in the 52nd minute.
The three points solidify Man City's position at the top of Group G with a total of nine points. Young Boys are in third place with one point.
Haaland's two goals put him on the Champions League top scorer list, after a goal drought since the start of this season's most prestigious European tournament.
He is currently in second place with two goals, tied with Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), and João Félix (Barcelona).
Meanwhile, Haaland's Man City teammate, Julian Álvarez, leads the top scorer chart with three goals.
Álvarez is tied with six other players, including Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal), Evanilson (Porto), and Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid).
The competition for the Champions League top scorer remains tight after the third matchday. This is because the goal difference among the players is not yet significant.
