The 2023 Mandalika MotoGP, held at the Mandalika Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) from October 13-15, 2023, was a success.
According to data from the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), the total number of spectators reached 102,929, an increase of 128 compared to last year.
Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir stated that the market for this world-class racing event is beginning to be mapped.
"From the market of spectators originating from Jakarta, or East Java, even from Bali and Lombok itself," said Erick, as reported by Antara on Monday (16/10/2023).
According to Erick, this market data needs further study by the Mandalika Grand Prix management to further increase the number of spectators in the future.
Erick also requested that the MotoGP organizers present other events to attract more visitors.
"Additional activities will not only attract spectators, but with the presence of MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) exhibitions or the like, it will increase the attractiveness of foreign and local tourists, providing an economic impact and multiplier effect for the surrounding community," said Erick.
Furthermore, according to Erick, the infrastructure development and improvements carried out by several SOEs have also made this year's MotoGP event much better.
In contrast to the Ministry of BUMN's data, according to data from ITDC, which oversees the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) as the manager of the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, the number of spectators at the 2023 Mandalika MotoGP has exceeded 103,000 this year.
"In this event, the total number of spectators reached 103,000, slightly more than the previous year which reached 102,801 over three days," said ITDC on its Instagram account @itdc_id, Sunday (15/10/2023).
Not only that, ITDC stated that more than 300 MSMEs from NTB were involved in the 2023 Mandalika MotoGP event.
The 2023 Mandalika MotoGP race was won by Francesco Bagnaia, who also secured the top spot in the provisional rider standings.
Maverick Viñales and Fabio Quartararo followed in second and third place on the podium.
Unfortunately, a number of prominent racers such as Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez, and Luca Marini failed to finish the race at the 2023 Mandalika GP.
