Indonesia secures overall victory at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games. As of Thursday evening (June 8, 2023), Indonesia had won 153 gold medals, 140 silver medals, and 90 bronze medals, totaling 383 medals.
This medal count makes it mathematically impossible for Thailand, in second place, to overtake Indonesia in the provisional medal standings of the 2023 ASEAN Para Games.
Especially since the Cambodian 2023 ASEAN Para Games concludes today. "With this medal achievement, the Indonesian contingent has confidently and convincingly secured the overall championship title at this year's ASEAN Para Games," stated the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPC Indonesia) on its Instagram account @npcindonesia on Thursday (June 8, 2023).
The Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, stated that this is the first time Indonesia has won the most gold, silver, and bronze medals in the ASEAN Para Games.
"Indonesia has once again achieved overall victory. This is a source of pride and immense joy, as Indonesia has won this title for three consecutive times," said Dito, as quoted by *Kompas.com* on Thursday (June 8, 2023).
"Even more special is that this edition marks the highest number of medals won while not hosting the games. This is history, even for silver and bronze medals," added Dito.
Thailand is in second place with a total of 123 gold medals, 106 silver medals, and 84 bronze medals. Vietnam is in third place with 66 gold medals, 57 silver medals, and 80 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the host country, Cambodia, is in 8th place with only 9 gold medals, 19 silver medals, and 42 bronze medals.
