How Much is the Bonus for Indonesian Olympic Medalists?

The Indonesian government consistently awards bonuses to athletes who win medals in the Olympics. The amount tends to increase with each Olympic Games.

However, the bonuses awarded at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics remained the same as those at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics. The amounts reached billions of rupiah for each medal-winning athlete.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, national athletes who won gold medals received a bonus of Rp 5 billion. Meanwhile, athletes who won silver and bronze medals received Rp 2 billion and Rp 1 billion, respectively.

Previously, at the London 2012 Olympics, the government awarded Rp 1 billion to gold medal-winning athletes. Athletes who won silver medals received Rp 400 million, while bronze medalists received Rp 200 million.

The government disbursed larger bonuses at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. The bonus for gold medal-winning athletes reached Rp 1.5 billion. Athletes who won silver and bronze medals received Rp 750 million and Rp 300 million, respectively.

Indonesia's representatives at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics won five medals in the prestigious event. Badminton contributed one gold and one bronze medal. Weightlifting athletes contributed one silver and two bronze medals.
