According to a report by the research institution Save Our Soccer (SOS), 78 Indonesian football club supporters died between January 1995 and June 2022.
The majority, 22 people, died from beatings. Another 17 died from falls from vehicles, and 14 from stab wounds.
Furthermore, 11 supporters reportedly died from being hit by blunt objects, 8 were trampled, and 2 each died from tear gas and falls from the stands.
One person died from a gunshot wound and one from a firecracker.
Based on the football club they supported, the highest number of deaths was among Persebaya supporters, with 17 fatalities. This was followed by Arema and Persija supporters, with 9 deaths each.
This report was released following the deaths of two Bobotoh (Persib supporters) who were on their way to watch the Persib vs. Persebaya match in the 2022 President's Cup at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA), Bandung, on Friday, June 17, 2022.
According to the Bandung City Police, the two Bobotoh allegedly died from oxygen deprivation due to overcrowding.
