Hundreds Dead and Injured in Kanjuruhan Tragedy: Here's the Data

A commotion occurred after Arema FC lost a football match against Persebaya at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang on Saturday (1/10). The commotion involved clashes between supporters and security forces, resulting in hundreds of casualties.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy stated that the total number of deaths and injuries resulting from the Kanjuruhan tragedy reached 448.

"There were 302 people with minor injuries, 21 with serious injuries, and 125 deaths. Therefore, the total number of casualties is 448," said Muhadjir, as quoted by KompasTV on Sunday (2/10) evening.

Muhadjir stated that this data has been verified by hospitals, police, and organizers. "With this official explanation, I hope there will be no speculation regarding the number of victims."

The clash at Kanjuruhan Stadium occurred after Arema supporters descended from the stands onto the field. As the situation became chaotic, the police confronted the spectators and fired tear gas.

However, the tear gas was not only fired at the supporters who had gone onto the field, but also into the stands. As a result, the spectators panicked and the crowd surged to get out of the stadium.

Amidst the panic, many spectators suffered from shortness of breath, fell, were trampled, and even died.
