Forbes has released its list of the world's highest-paid athletes under 25 for 2023. In its report titled *The World's Highest-Paid Athletes Age 25 And Under For 2023*, Kylian Mbappé tops the list as the highest-paid young athlete this year.
The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) striker is estimated to have an annual income of US$120 million, or approximately Rp1.78 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp14,910/US$). This breaks down to US$100 million in on-field earnings, including salary and bonuses, and US$20 million in off-field income from sponsorships and endorsements.
Forbes states that the estimated income data for these athletes was collected between May 1, 2022, and May 1, 2023.
According to Forbes, Mbappé first appeared among the world's top 50 highest-paid athletes at age 21 in 2020.
The French footballer's earnings have surged by US$43 million from last year's Forbes list. "However, over the past 12 months, Mbappé's income has reached a new level, propelling him into the top ten for the first time," Forbes stated on Tuesday (May 16, 2023).
The next highest-paid young athlete is Kyler Murray, an American football player, with an estimated annual income of US$70.5 million.
Following closely is Dutch racing driver Max Verstappen, also on the list of highest-paid young athletes in 2023, with an estimated annual income of US$64 million.
"The racer received a significant salary increase when he signed a new contract with Red Bull Racing in March 2022 and is believed to receive lucrative bonuses for race wins and season-long titles," said Forbes.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and NBA basketball player Luka Don?i? are also included in this list of the world's highest-paid young athletes.
