Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei successfully won the top scorer award at the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
Unfortunately, Casadei's brilliant performance wasn't enough to lead the Italian national team to victory. Gli Azzurri lost to Uruguay 0-1 in the final match at the Estadio Unico Diego Armando Maradona, La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the early hours of Monday, June 12, 2023.
Despite failing to win the championship for Italy, Casadei achieved outstanding individual achievements, even winning two awards.
The Cesena youth player, currently contracted by Chelsea, ended the 2023 U-20 World Cup with the Golden Boot, awarded to the tournament's top goalscorer. Casadei topped the U-20 World Cup 2023 top scorer list with a total of 7 goals.
Casadei's goal tally surpassed Marcos Leonardo (Brazil) with 5 goals, and Oscar Cortes (Colombia) and Justin Cuero (Ecuador) with 4 goals each.
In addition to the Golden Boot, Casadei also received the Golden Ball award, recognizing him as the best player of the 2023 U-20 World Cup. Casadei beat Uruguayan defender Alan Matturo (playing for Genoa) for the Silver Ball, and South Korean player Lee Seung-won for the Bronze Ball.
