Liverpool overtook Arsenal at the top of the English Premier League table after the matchday 16. The competition for the top four spots is heating up, with points separating the teams being very close.
Liverpool's rise to the top was secured by their victory over Crystal Palace. The Reds won 2-1 at Selhurst Park Stadium on Saturday (9/12/2023).
Liverpool's two goals were scored by Mohamed Salah (76') and Harvey Elliott (90+1'), while Crystal Palace's goal was scored by Jean-Philippe Mateta from a penalty (57').
Salah and his teammates now have 37 points from 16 matches. Meanwhile, Arsenal, playing a few hours later, failed to reclaim the top spot.
The Gunners lost 0-1 to Aston Villa. Arsenal dropped to second place with 36 points, followed closely by Aston Villa with 35 points in third place.
Manchester City trails in fourth place with 33 points. The Citizens ended their four-week winless streak with a 2-1 victory against Luton Town.
Tottenham Hotspur added 3 points after winning 4-1 against Newcastle. However, The Lilywhites remain in fifth place.
On the other hand, Manchester United failed to close the gap on the top four after losing 0-3 to Bournemouth. The Red Devils are in sixth place with 27 points, now 6 points behind Man City.
