Many Worry Impeachment Inquiry Could Lead to President's Removal

Kompas Research and Development (Litbang Kompas) conducted a survey on public perception regarding the proposed use of the House of Representatives' (DPR) right of inquiry to investigate alleged fraud in the 2024 Presidential Election.

One of the findings is that 49.5% of respondents expressed concern that this could lead to the impeachment or removal of the president.

"This concern tends to be more apparent among respondents who disagree with the right of inquiry," wrote Kompas Litbang researcher Yohan Wahyu in his report on Monday (4/3/2024).

On the other hand, 40.6% of respondents were not worried if the exercise of the right of inquiry led to the president's impeachment, and 9.9% answered "don't know."

The proposal for the right of inquiry was initially raised by presidential candidate number 3, Ganjar Pranowo, who urged his supporting parties in the DPR to investigate alleged electoral fraud.

This effort was also supported by presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan.

"The issue of electoral fraud, which underlies the proposal for the right of inquiry, has been widely discussed in the public sphere, including on social media," wrote Litbang Kompas.

This Litbang Kompas survey involved 512 respondents randomly selected using a stratified systematic sampling method across 38 Indonesian provinces.

Data collection was conducted from February 26-28, 2024, through telephone interviews. The survey's margin of error is approximately 4.33%, with a 95% confidence level under simple random sampling conditions.
