This is the Shift in Voter Sentiment Following the Second Jakarta 2024 Gubernatorial Debate

The second Jakarta 2024 gubernatorial election debate was held at the Beach City International Stadium, North Jakarta, on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

This debate focused on the theme of "Economy and Social Welfare," encompassing six sub-themes: integrated infrastructure and prime basic services; education and health; handling social inequality; digital economic development and MSMEs; tourism and creative economy; and staple food inflation.

According to a survey conducted by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) in collaboration with tSurvey (or Katadata Telco Survey), 52.3% of respondents reported feeling more confident in their chosen candidate pair after watching the debate.

Furthermore, 21% of respondents who were previously undecided or intended to abstain now have a preferred candidate.

Conversely, 9.4% of respondents became uncertain about their initial choice and are considering switching to another candidate pair. Meanwhile, 7.1% of respondents became more determined to abstain.

"Only a small percentage of the public decided to switch their choice to another candidate pair (3.6%)," wrote KIC in its report released on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

This survey involved 704 respondents residing in Jakarta, meeting the criteria of having voting rights, using a Telkomsel mobile phone number, and watching the debate.

The sample was drawn from the tSurvey population based on Telkomsel's telco data insight.

Data collection was conducted online from October 27-28, 2024, using simple random sampling. The survey's margin of error is 3.7% at a 95% confidence level.
