Indonesia Saw a Decrease in Bribery Cases in 2022

Bribery cases are a type of corruption that frequently occurs in Indonesia, particularly in the public service sector.

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), processed from the Anti-Corruption Behavior Survey (SPAK), bribery practices in Indonesia have decreased over the past year.

In 2022, 15.46% of the public paid bribes to officials when accessing public services, either directly or through intermediaries. This is lower than the 2021 figure of 17.63%.

A similar trend is observed among business actors, where 18.32% paid bribes to officials when accessing public services in 2022, down from 19.62% in 2021.

This indicates a growing public and business sector aversion to bribery. According to the BPS, this phenomenon is believed to be influenced by improvements in public services implemented by the government.

This aligns with the 2022 Indonesian Anti-Corruption Behavior Index (IPAK), which increased to 3.93 from 3.88 the previous year (on a scale of 0 to 5). This signifies an increase in public understanding and assessment of anti-corruption behavior in 2022.
