Number of DPR Seats Increased to 580 for the 2024 General Election: Complete List by Province

The Indonesian government increased the number of seats in the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) from 575 to 580, following the formation of four new provinces in Papua.

The increase in the number of seats in the DPR RI is stipulated in Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) Number 1 of 2022 concerning Amendments to Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning the General Election. This Perppu was signed by President Joko Widodo on December 12, 2022.

Article 186 of Law Number 17 of 2017 was amended, resulting in Article 186 now reading, "Article 186: The number of DPR members is set at 580 (five hundred and eighty)," according to one of the provisions in Perppu 1 of 2022.

The number of DPR RI seats increased by 5 from the 575 seats in Article 186 of Law Number 17 of 2017 concerning the General Election. The four new provinces are South Papua Province, Central Papua Province, Highland Papua Province, and West Papua Province.

Before the regional expansion, the DPR RI seat quota for Papua was 13 seats; 3 seats from Papua Province and 10 seats from West Papua Province.

After the regional expansion, the DPR RI seat quota from Tanah Papua increased to 18 seats, detailed as follows:

* Papua: 3 seats
* South Papua: 3 seats
* Central Papua: 3 seats
* Highland Papua: 3 seats
* West Papua: 3 seats
* Southwest Papua: 3 seats

West Java has the largest DPR RI seat quota, with 91 seats. This is followed by East Java with 87 seats, and Central Java with 77 seats.
