Fisheries Trade Balance Shows Surplus of 827,000 Tons

Data from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) shows that the performance of the fisheries trade sector in 2018 improved compared to the previous year. Fisheries exports totaled 1.2 million tons, a 4.5% increase compared to 2017's 1 million tons. Meanwhile, the volume of fisheries imports decreased by 4.2% to 299,000 tons from 312,000 tons in 2017. As a result, the fisheries trade surplus increased by 7.96%, from 766,000 tons to 827,000 tons.

These figures indicate an improvement in the performance of the fisheries sector. In previous years, the fisheries trade surplus had consistently declined. The fisheries trade surplus consecutively reached 1 million tons in 2014, then fell to 856,000 tons in 2015. In 2016, the surplus decreased to 852,000 tons and further dropped to 766,000 tons in 2017. Furthermore, 2017 also saw a surge in imports of 39.9%, from 223,000 tons to 312,000 tons.

The fisheries trade surplus in the first half of 2019 increased by 11.9% to 395,000 tons compared to 353,000 tons in the first half of 2018. This surplus was driven by a 3.5% increase in exports from 510,000 tons to 528,000 tons. Meanwhile, the volume of imports decreased by 15.9%, from 157,000 tons in the first half of 2018 to 132,000 tons in the first half of 2019.
