The Information and Communications Sector Continues to Grow Amidst the Covid-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has been ongoing since 2020, has caused crises in many business sectors. However, the information and communication sector has still managed to record growth.

The widespread adoption of online schooling and remote work during the pandemic led to increased internet usage among the population, which contributed to the growth of the information and communication sector.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the information and communication sector's gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices (ADHB) reached Rp748.75 trillion throughout 2021.

Meanwhile, according to the GDP at constant 2010 prices (ADHK), the information and communication sector grew by 6.81% to Rp696.46 trillion in 2021 compared to the previous year.

As shown in the graph, over the last decade, the growth of the information and communication sector has consistently been above the growth rate of Indonesia's GDP. Its highest achievement was in 2012, with growth reaching 12.28%.

In 2021, the growth of the information and communication sector was still higher than the national GDP growth, which was only 3.69%. However, this sector's achievement was lower than in 2020, when it grew by 10.61%.
