Per Capita PDRB in West Java Decreases Due to the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the per capita Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices in West Java was Rp 41.81 million in 2020. This figure decreased by 2.92% from the previous year's Rp 43.07 million.

According to BPS, this decrease was due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Many West Java residents lost income due to the implementation of social restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.

West Java's per capita GRDP was equivalent to US$ 2,964.5 last year. Based on the World Bank's classification, West Java falls into the lower-middle-income category.

For information, the World Bank has four economic categories based on per capita income. Regions with a per capita income of more than US$ 11,906 are classified as high-income.

Regions with per capita income between US$ 3,856 and US$ 11,905 are classified as upper-middle-income. Regions with per capita income between US$ 976 and US$ 3,855 are classified as lower-middle-income. Regions outside these categories are classified as low-income.

Per capita GRDP is the average income of residents, calculated by dividing the GRDP by the population of a region in a given year. The higher the per capita income, the more prosperous the region.
