The Accommodation and Food Service Sector Grew by 21.58% in Q2 2021

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant prices in the accommodation and food service sector reached Rp 78.3 trillion in Q2 2021. This figure grew by 21.58% compared to the same quarter of the previous year (year-on-year/yoy).

This positive growth was the first in the last year. Previously, the accommodation and food service sector had experienced contraction since Q2 2020.

Furthermore, the GDP growth in the accommodation and food service sector was the second highest in Q2 2021. The first position was occupied by the transportation and warehousing sector, which recorded growth of 25.1% (yoy).

Compared to Q1 2021 (quarter-to-quarter/q-to-q), the accommodation and food service sector experienced growth of 1.91%. This growth was higher than the previous quarter, which contracted by 1.8%.

Cumulatively, the accommodation and food service sector experienced growth of 5.35% in the first half of 2021 (c-to-c). This growth was also higher than in the first half of 2020, which contracted by 10.11%.

The relaxation of community activity restriction policies was one of the drivers of growth in this sector. This also increased tourist visits and the hotel occupancy rate (HOR).

The GDP at current prices for the accommodation and food service sector reached Rp 103.6 trillion in Q2 2021. Thus, this sector contributed 0.54% to the national GDP of Rp 4,175.84 trillion.
