In 2016, the average Regional Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) per capita per year for regencies and cities in Indonesia was Rp 45.9 million. Of the 484 regencies and cities successfully surveyed by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), 30 had a per capita nominal income exceeding Rp 100 million per year. Central Jakarta had the highest per capita income, reaching Rp 580 million.
Other areas with per capita income exceeding Rp 200 million, ranked from highest to lowest, were Anambas Regency, Teluk Bintuni Regency, Kediri City, Bontang City, Kutai Timur Regency, Thousand Islands Regency, Natuna Regency, Bengkalis Regency, North Jakarta City, and South Jakarta City. Eight of these areas had higher per capita income than all other areas in Jakarta except for Central Jakarta.
RGDP is the sum of the value added of goods and services produced by various production units in a region. Dividing the nominal RGDP by the population of a region yields the RGDP per capita. This calculation is used as an approximation to calculate the per capita income of a region's population.
