Indonesia's 2017 economy, measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices, reached Rp 13,588.8 trillion. With a population of 261.8 million, Indonesia's GDP per capita reached Rp 51.89 million, equivalent to US$ 3,876.8. Indonesia's per capita income last year increased by 8.1% compared to the previous year's Rp 47.97 million.
GDP per capita represents the average income earned by residents, calculated by dividing national income by the population. GDP per capita is one indicator used to measure the prosperity of a region. A higher per capita income indicates a more prosperous region. Conversely, a lower GDP per capita indicates a less prosperous region.
Based on Indonesia's spatial economic structure in 2017, the economy was still dominated by provinces on Java Island, contributing 58.49%. This means the economy is still dominated by the population on Java Island. Sumatra Island contributed only 21.66%, Kalimantan Island 8.2%, Sulawesi Island 6.11%, and other islands 5.54%.
