What is the contribution of the manufacturing industry to the national GDP?

The manufacturing industry remains the largest contributor to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the GDP at current prices (ADHB) for the manufacturing industry sector reached Rp 805.62 trillion, or 19.29% of the total national GDP of Rp 4,175.84 trillion in the second quarter of 2021.

This comprises a non-oil and gas manufacturing industry GDP of Rp 724.05 trillion (17.34%) and a coal and refining industry GDP of Rp 81.57 trillion (1.95%).

Next, the agricultural sector contributed Rp 596.01 trillion (14.27%) to the GDP. This breaks down into: Rp 450.05 trillion (10.78%) from agriculture, livestock, hunting, and agricultural services; Rp 118.35 trillion (2.83%) from fisheries; and Rp 27.61 trillion (0.66%) from forestry and logging.

The wholesale and retail trade sector contributed Rp 546.36 trillion (13.08%) to the GDP. This is further divided into Rp 446.1 trillion (10.68%) from wholesale and retail trade (excluding cars and motorcycles) and Rp 100.26 trillion (2.4%) from the car, motorcycle, and repair sub-sector. Of the 17 main sectors, only 4 contributed more than 10% to the national GDP; the rest contributed less than 10%.

Indonesia's economy grew by 7.07% year-on-year (yoy) in the second quarter of 2021 compared to the second quarter of 2020. The manufacturing sector grew by 6.8% (yoy), the agricultural sector by 0.38% (yoy), and the wholesale and retail trade sector by 9.44% (yoy).
