Food and Beverage Industry Supported One-Third of Indonesia's Manufacturing Sector in 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the national food and beverage industry's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices (ADHB) reached Rp1.23 quadrillion in 2022. This value constitutes 6.32% of the total national economy, which reached Rp19.59 quadrillion.

Food and beverages also contributed more than one-third (38.35%) to the total GDP of the non-oil and gas processing industry, which totaled Rp3.23 quadrillion. This share is the largest compared to other industries.

The next largest non-oil and gas processing industry in terms of GDP is the chemical, pharmaceutical, and traditional medicine industry, reaching Rp357.32 trillion (11.07%).

This is followed by the transportation equipment industry at Rp284.62 trillion (8.82%), the metal goods industry at Rp284.56 trillion (8.81%), the textile and ready-made clothing industry at Rp201.64 trillion (6.25%), and the basic metal industry at Rp168.01 trillion (5.2%).

Next is the tobacco processing industry with an ADHB GDP of Rp134.75 trillion (4.21%), the paper and paper products industry at Rp128.96 trillion (3.99%), and the non-metallic mineral products industry at Rp91.08 trillion (2.82%).

Then, the rubber industry contributed Rp87.78 trillion (2.72%), the wood industry Rp80.13 trillion (2.48%), the machinery and equipment industry Rp55.33 trillion (1.71%), the leather, leather goods, and footwear industry Rp48.13 trillion (1.49%), the furniture industry Rp41.97 trillion (0.15%), and other processing industries such as repair and marketing services at Rp24.75 trillion (0.77%).

Of the 15 non-oil and gas industrial sector GDPs, 11 sectors recorded growth, and 4 sectors experienced contraction. The basic metal industry recorded the highest growth, while the rubber and rubber products industry recorded the deepest contraction.
