Based on World Bank data, Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) per capita was US$3,869.59, equivalent to Rp 54.58 million per capita (using an exchange rate of Rp 14,105.1 per US$), in 2020. With this value, Indonesia's GDP per capita ranked fifth among the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Indonesia's position was below Thailand, which ranked fourth with a GDP per capita of US$7,190.04, and above the Philippines, which ranked sixth with a GDP per capita of US$3,298.83.
Singapore had the highest GDP per capita in ASEAN, reaching US$59,797.75. Brunei Darussalam was second with a GDP per capita of US$27,466.34, and Malaysia was third with a GDP per capita of US$10,401.79.
Vietnam ranked seventh with a GDP per capita of US$2,785.72, followed by Laos in eighth place with a GDP per capita of US$2,630.20, and Cambodia and Myanmar in ninth and tenth place respectively, with GDP per capita of US$1,512.73 and US$1,400.22.
GDP per capita is one indicator used to measure average income per inhabitant. Based on the data above, the average income of Indonesian residents is still significantly lower than that of Singapore. With a population of 270 million, Indonesia's GDP per capita remains relatively low.
