Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Norway are among the top three countries with the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in the world. The popularity of these three countries rose in 2016, surpassing Qatar, which previously held the top spot in 2012. Despite being small countries, Luxembourg recorded a per capita GDP of US$104,000, Switzerland US$78,000, and Norway US$69,000.
According to the IMF, these 2016 GDP per capita figures are based on the latest data from 2014 and 2015. The United States ranked 6th and Singapore 10th.
Qatar was previously considered one of the wealthiest countries in the world during the period 2009-2013, with a GDP per capita of US$103,000 in 2012. However, in 2016, Qatar's GDP per capita fell to US$66,000. Not only Qatar, but Indonesia also experienced a decline in GDP per capita. Indonesia's GDP per capita was recorded at US$3,744 in 2012, declining annually thereafter to US$3,362 in 2015. In 2016, Indonesia's GDP per capita is estimated at US$3,620, ranking 116th.
