Indonesian Household Consumption Grew 1.03% in Q3 2021

Household consumption expenditure, measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant 2010 prices, reached Rp 1,446.5 trillion in Q3 2021. This figure represents a 1.03% year-on-year (YoY) growth.

Household consumption expenditure on hotels and restaurants showed the highest growth at 2.48% (YoY). Expenditure on health and education also grew by 2.44%. Meanwhile, household consumption expenditure on housing and household furnishings increased by 2.29% (YoY).

Compared to the previous quarter, Indonesian household consumption expenditure contracted by 0.18% (quarter-to-quarter/QoQ). The deepest contraction was seen in transportation and communication, at -2.53% (QoQ).

This was followed by a negative growth of 1.98% (QoQ) in restaurant and hotel expenditure. Expenditure on clothing, footwear, and personal care services contracted by 1.49% (QoQ).

Cumulatively, household consumption expenditure from January to September 2021 grew by 1.5% compared to the same period last year (cumulative-to-cumulative/C-to-C). Restaurant and hotel expenditure recorded the highest growth at 4.26% (C-to-C).

Household consumption expenditure on housing and household furnishings grew by 1.89% (C-to-C), while expenditure on transportation and communication grew by 1.69% (C-to-C).

Indonesia's economy grew by 3.51% (YoY) in Q3 2021. Compared to the previous quarter, the Indonesian economy also grew by 1.5% (QoQ). Meanwhile, GDP grew by 3.24% in the first nine months of 2021 compared to the same period last year.
