2024 Indonesian National Price Reference Book (PDRB) for 38 Provinces

Regional Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) is the sum of the value of goods and services produced in a region.

Every year, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) routinely calculates the RGDP of Indonesian provinces using various approaches, one of which is the expenditure approach.

RGDP expenditure is calculated by summing the value of household consumption, government consumption, gross domestic fixed capital formation, changes in inventories, and net exports (exports minus imports).

This indicator is used to measure the economy from the perspective of consumption, investment, and export-import transactions in a region.

In 2024, the province with the largest economy was DKI Jakarta, with a nominal RGDP of Rp3.68 quadrillion.

This DKI Jakarta RGDP represents 16.7% of the total RGDP of all Indonesian provinces, which totaled Rp22.02 quadrillion.

Other provinces with relatively large RGDPs include East Java, West Java, Central Java, North Sumatra, Riau, Banten, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and South Sumatra.

Meanwhile, the lowest RGDPs were in Papua Pegunungan, South Papua, West Papua Daya, Gorontalo, and Maluku, as shown in the graph.

According to BPS, the economy or RGDP of provinces on Java and Sumatra islands primarily comes from household consumption and gross fixed capital formation or investment.

Meanwhile, the RGDP of provinces outside Java and Sumatra is mainly supported by export activities, particularly South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, and West Papua.

"Indonesia's main export commodities from these provinces include coal, nickel, iron and steel, and LNG," said BPS in its report *Regional Gross Domestic Product of Provinces in Indonesia by Expenditure 2020-2024*.
