Indonesia's Timber Stock Continues to Decline Over the Past 5 Years

The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) report, *Integrated System of Indonesian Environmental and Economic Accounts 2019-2023*, compiles the year-end physical stock of Indonesian timber.

During the 2019-2023 period, Indonesia's timber stock volume decreased annually.

In 2019, it was recorded at 4.04 billion cubic meters. This decreased by 1.86% to 3.96 billion cubic meters in 2020.

The volume further decreased by 2.15% in 2021 to 3.88 billion cubic meters.

A further decrease of 1.13% occurred in 2022, resulting in a volume of 3.83 billion cubic meters.

The latest data from 2023 shows a 4.75% drop to 3.65 billion cubic meters, the highest decrease in the last five years.

However, this reduction in physical stock contrasts with the resulting monetary value. BPS recorded a monetary value of Rp1,410.98 trillion in 2023, the highest in the last five years.

This timber resource data was compiled by BPS from internal sources, Perum Perhutani, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), and the Ministry of Finance.
