Improved Effectiveness of the Indonesian Government during 2002-2022

The effectiveness of the Indonesian government's performance in providing public services has improved over the past two decades.

This is evident from the Worldwide Governance Indicator data, specifically the government effectiveness index, released by the World Bank.

In 2002, shortly after the Reformasi period, Indonesia's government effectiveness index percentile ranking was only 37.30%.

This means that at that time, the Indonesian government's performance in providing public services was better than only 37.30% of countries globally.

The percentile ranking then gradually increased, reaching 66.04% in 2022.

In other words, in 2022, the effectiveness of the Indonesian government's performance was better than 66.04% of countries globally.

The World Bank assesses government effectiveness based on the perceptions of the public, businesses, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions regarding the quality of public services in a country.

Assessment indicators include the quality of bureaucracy, road infrastructure, education and health services, access to clean water, sanitation, electricity networks, public transportation, and waste management.

In creating this index, the World Bank uses data from public opinion surveys and expert assessment reports from various institutions, including the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Gallup World Poll (GWP), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and others.

All this data is then formulated into a percentile ranking on a scale of 0-100. The higher the score, the better the effectiveness of a country's government performance is assumed to be.
