Healthcare Services and Social Activities: The Fastest-Growing Business Sectors in 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's economy grew by 3.69% in 2021. This figure is higher than the 2.07% contraction experienced in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Economic growth in 2021 occurred in almost all business sectors. The sector with the highest growth was Health Services and Social Activities at 10.46%. This was followed by the Information and Communication sector at 6.81%, and Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Repair at 4.65%.

Meanwhile, the Mining and Quarrying sector grew by 4%. Other sectors and the Manufacturing Industry, which play a dominant role, grew by 3.61% and 3.39%, respectively.

The structure of Indonesia's GDP by business sector at current prices in 2021 did not show significant changes. The Indonesian economy is still dominated by the manufacturing industry at 19.25%. This is followed by agriculture, forestry, and fisheries at 13.28%.

Next, wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles account for 12.97%, Construction at 10.44%, and mining and quarrying at 8.98%. The contribution of these five sectors to the Indonesian economy reached 64.92%.
