The Agriculture Sector Grew Slightly by 0.38% in the Second Quarter of 2021

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant 2010 prices for the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors grew slightly by 0.38% to Rp 376.25 trillion in Q2 2021 compared to Q2 2020 (year-on-year/yoy). The agricultural sector recorded the lowest growth among the other 16 main sectors.

Some sub-sectors experienced increases. The agriculture, livestock, hunting, and agricultural services sub-sector contracted by 1.29% in Q2 2021 (yoy). Similarly, the forestry and logging sub-sector contracted by 4.4% (yoy). Meanwhile, the fisheries sub-sector recorded growth of 9.69% (yoy).

Compared to Q1 2021 (quarter-to-quarter/q-to-q), the agricultural sector grew by 12.93%. The agriculture, livestock, hunting, and agricultural services sub-sector grew by 14.5% (q-to-q), the forestry and logging sub-sector grew by 13.75% (q-to-q), and the fisheries sub-sector grew by 6.41% (q-to-q).

Cumulatively in the first half of 2021, the agricultural sector grew by 1.75% compared to the first half of 2020 (cumulative-to-cumulative/c-to-c). The agriculture, livestock, hunting, and agricultural services sub-sector grew by 1.69% (c-to-c), and the fisheries sub-sector grew by 4.07% (c-to-c). However, the forestry and logging sub-sector contracted by 6.57% (c-to-c).

The agricultural sector's GDP in the second quarter of this year amounted to Rp 596.01 trillion. This means the agricultural sector contributed 14.27% to the national economy, which reached Rp 4,175.84 trillion.

Indonesia's economy itself grew by 7.07% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same quarter last year (yoy). Compared to the first quarter of this year, it grew by 3.31% (q-to-q). Cumulatively in the first half of this year, it grew by 3.1% (c-to-c).
