Indonesia boasts the largest economy in ASEAN. However, its per capita GDP lags behind its neighbors.
This is according to the October 2023 edition of the *World Economic Outlook* database on the IMF website.
The IMF measures national economies based on projected Gross Domestic Product (GDP) values.
In 2023, Indonesia's GDP is projected to reach US$1.4 trillion. This represents 36.7% of the total ASEAN GDP, or 1.4% of the global GDP.
This GDP projection places Indonesia as the top economy in ASEAN and 16th globally.
However, Indonesia's per capita GDP in 2023 is only US$5,100, approximately 17 times lower than Singapore's.
In per capita terms, Indonesia's economy ranks only 5th in ASEAN, trailing behind Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, and Thailand.

1. Singapore: US$87,900
