Health services and social activities are one of the industries that consistently grew during the Covid-19 pandemic. The increased demand for medicines and medical equipment to treat Covid-19 patients fueled the growth of the health services sector.
While the Indonesian economy experienced contraction from Q2 2020 to Q1 2021, the health services sector continued to grow, even recording the highest growth in Q4 2020.
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant prices (ADHK) for the health services and social activities sector grew by 11.62% to Rp 36.24 trillion in Q2 2021 compared to Q2 2020 (year-on-year/yoy).
Similarly, compared to the previous quarter (quarter-to-quarter/q-to-q), the health services sector recorded growth of 3.56%. Cumulatively, the first half of 2021 grew by 7.38% compared to the first half of 2020 (cumulative-to-cumulative/c-to-c).
The GDP at current prices (ADHB) for the health services and social activities sector in the April-June 2021 period reached Rp 52.17 trillion. This means the sector contributed 1.25% to the total national GDP of Rp 4,175.84 trillion.
Indonesia's economy in the second quarter of this year grew by 7.07% compared to the same period last year (yoy). Compared to the previous quarter, the domestic economy also grew by 3.31%. Cumulatively, the first six months of this year also grew by 3.1% compared to the first six months of last year (c-to-c).
