Indonesia's coal export value soared in line with its price increase in the market.
According to the latest report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the total value of national coal exports in Q2 2022 reached US$13.55 billion. This figure increased by approximately 78% (quarter-on-quarter/qoq) and grew by 155% (year-on-year/yoy).
Currently, the national coal industry is targeting expansion into the European market, which is experiencing an energy supply crisis due to its tensions with Russia.
One example of this expansion plan is PT Bukit Asam, which has signed a coal export contract with Italy for 140,000 metric tons (MT) in the first half of this year. Besides Italy, the company is also in the process of exploring coal export contracts with Germany and Poland.
"Poland and Germany are still in the process, especially regarding price, size, and quantity," said PT Bukit Asam President Director Arsal Ismail, as reported by *Katadata.co.id* on Friday (26/8/2022).
