According to a report by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Indonesia's coal utilization volume reached 790 million tons throughout 2025.

More than half of it, specifically 514 million tons (65%), was utilized for export or sent abroad.

Then, 254 million tons (32%) were for domestic consumption, and the remaining 22 million tons (3%) were for stock.

For 2026, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) cut the coal production target to approximately 600 million tons, lower than the realized production in 2025.

Meanwhile, according to estimates by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's coal resources can still be exploited for approximately another 50 years.

The "remaining lifespan" of Indonesia's coal assets is longer than that of oil and natural gas, which are estimated to last only about another 20 years, or even less.
