Beckham is a four-episode documentary series chronicling the life of David Robert Joseph Beckham. Released on Netflix on October 4th, 2023, the series covers Beckham's childhood, his rise to fame as a Manchester United player, and his life off the field.
The series features exclusive interviews with Beckham, including his discussion of difficult moments, particularly receiving a red card in the 1998 World Cup match against Argentina in France. After a fall, Beckham retaliated by kicking Diego Simeone in the back of the leg, resulting in a red card.
This moment became a turning point in Beckham's life. England's hopes of reaching the quarter-finals were dashed after losing a penalty shootout 3-4. Beckham was blamed for the loss, with many believing England could have won with 11 players.
Once a hero, Beckham became a hated figure among football fans in his own country.
Directed by Oscar winner Fisher Stevens, the series delves into Beckham's career and life, featuring interviews with his wife and family, teammates such as Eric Cantona, Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, and former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
