According to a report by We Are Social and Hootsuite, Facebook had 2.93 billion active users in October 2022. This makes Facebook the social media platform with the most users worldwide.
YouTube ranked second with 2.51 billion active users, followed by WhatsApp with 2 billion, and Instagram with 1.38 billion active users.
Next in line were Weixin/WeChat with 1.29 billion active users, TikTok with 1 billion, Facebook Messenger with 976 million, Telegram with 700 million, and Douyin with 613 million active users.
Meanwhile, Twitter was ranked 14th with a total of 544 million active users, followed by Pinterest with 433 million active users.
Overall, the report states that there were 4.74 billion social media users worldwide in October 2022. This is equivalent to 59.3% of the global population.
"These users generally use or visit an average of 7.2 different social media platforms each month, and spend an average of almost 2.5 hours per day using social media," said We Are Social in the *Digital 2022 October Global Statshot Report*.
"Assuming that people sleep between 7 and 8 hours a day, this figure shows that people spend about 15% of their lives using social media," it continued.
