The Impact of Gaming on Social Life Is Not Always Negative

The habit of playing games can have both positive and negative impacts on social life.

This is evident from Populix's survey report titled "Gaming Behavior 2025".

Populix found that out of 1,100 Indonesian respondents, 466 people (42%) enjoyed playing games in June 2025.

Within this group, the majority, or 31%, felt they made new friends through playing games.

Furthermore, 16% were able to become closer to old friends by playing together, and 12% felt more confident in social interactions because they were active in gaming communities.

However, a small portion of other respondents felt their social lives were negatively affected by playing games.

7% of respondents rarely interacted with friends/family in the real world, 7% were often scolded by partners/family for playing too long, and 2% felt their social relationships deteriorated.

On the other hand, 26% of respondents stated that games did not have a significant impact on their social lives.

"This indicates that games can generally become part of daily routines without disrupting social relationships," Populix stated in its report.

Populix conducted this survey online from June 10-12, 2025. The majority of respondents were located on Java Island (80%), followed by Sumatra Island (13%) and other islands (7%).
